When I was a kid, I used to attend sports clinics every summer. I have tried learning a couple of sports. I used to go to swimming lessons, dance lessons, tennis lessons, and even badminton. I loved playing all of them. Among such sports, though, my top two favorites are swimming, and tennis. Well, not because I do well in both, but because these two are the ones I enjoy the most.

These days, I don't have much time for physical activities but I try to make time as much as I could. With the basketball and the tennis courts lying flat right in front of our house, I am sincerely hoping to become more physically active in the coming weeks, months, years, and beyond.

I love throwing basketball on the hoops but I was never good at it. I could only shoot from the freethrow line and nowhere else farther than that. After a couple of rounds of shooting though, my arms feel great. They could really firm up fast. Sometimes, I also go swimming alone at the clubhouse pool. It's a ten-minute walk from our house. I am amazed at how I can target a lot of muscle groups when I do laps. It really feels great to sort of run out of breath once in a while.

I hope it's already weekend. I just can't wait to get myself to working out.

It is amazing how the Rays own Joba in his first spring training start. This is like the third year in a row they have bombed him. He has given up three runs in his first inning of work after Hughes looked decent. But, as a principle, I love betting against power pitchers in their first spring start since they don't have stamina and usually don't throw breaking balls. Add that it is cold and a Rays win looks inevitable. Wish I had seen him listed as pitching. Would have cashed in. Now I am just scared about my under bet.

A Realization

I used to think that physicality is the gauge of everything. I used to believe that what one wears reflects his/her entirety as a person. Thus, every other time, I try to hit the malls, score for the newest collections, and clad myself in garments that I thought would make others feel astounded or better yet intimidated. It was a very superficial principle that I have embraced for almost my entire life. I dressed to impress people and to show them that "Hey! I can afford to wear these clothes. I can buy expensive stuff."

Whatever I do, though, there's no happiness and contentment that I find in doing such. It's just the mere fact that I grab people's attention when I do dress up ostentatiously. There's nothing really that I get except for curious and admiring glances. It's a fleeting moment of pleasure that affirms the public's acceptance of who I am or who they perceive me to be. It was almost an endless struggle for me, trying to keep up with the latest fashion picks and trying to portray myself in such way that others will drown in envy.

But all throughout these months of financial draught--I say that because, I do not have a regular weekly or monthly allowance anymore from my parents--I realized how simple things can be beautiful in their own ways and how simplicity can even be more humbling and self-fulfilling than ostentation. Perhaps, it was the kind of happiness that I have been searching for a long time. The one that crushed my restlessness. The one that gives more significance to the core of my personality. The one that inspires me to learn more from life and become a better person, a better Christian.

Yes, with all honesty, I admit that I dreamed of wealth, of fame, of greatness. But acquiring all these do not necessarily make one person greater than others. Such is never the gauge of success. This life is not be lived for earthly things but for the One who created us. All else will perish but heavenly things won't and the love of the Lord won't. He is all we'll ever have to please as we journey through this thing called life.

Today, we are working on our upcoming event in Tarlac. Because of the success of the four-city tour that we organized in Canada last year, we are replicating the Ex-PBA All Star Tour, here in the Philippines, for the promotion of Hazzsports.com. The first among series of exhibition games will be held on the 27th of February 2010, in the province of Tarlac.

As part of our marketing efforts, we met, this morning, with one of the mayors in Tarlac with whom we discussed everything about Hazzsports.com and the upcoming Ex-PBA All Star Exhibition Game. After discussing the matter, he invited us to present in front of all the mayors of Tarlac on the 10th. Apparently, the Mayors' League of Tarlac will be holding their meeting, then, and he wanted us to be there to present and discuss possible opportunities with the local officials.

The outpour of blessings just won't stop. Just a while ago, while I was typing this, Ex-PBA player Jayvee Gayoso called. It turned out that he is currently serving as the Director for Sports in the Private Schools of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal,Quezon). He offered to help us out in contacting the private schools all over the CALABARZON region.

Thank God for a blessed Friday!

Yesterday was just as productive as the other day. We were able to get endorsement from the Philippine Congress Chairman for Sports, Hon. Cesar Jalosjos. He saw the great potential of Hazzsports.com in the Philippines and he also saw the opportunities that the website may provide the Filipinos. He said that such might just be the answer to their long overdue plan of establishing a database for our home-grown athletes. Because of his great enthusiasm in the project, he even took the initiative to refer us to other key people that we could talk to. He endorsed us to the heads of Philippine Sports Committee, the Philippine Olympic Committee, and the Department of Interior and Local Government.

In the late afternoon, we met with one of our contact persons in Batangas, where we will most probably be holding our next event. Next week, we'll be off to visit the province to establish relationships with more contact people and to check out for other opportunities in the place.

At last, for the first time this week I had a break from dental work. It can be really stressful at times to keep staring at people’s mouth. My fellow dentist in Costa Mesa and best friend, Janna, calls me a slave of the dentist’s chair. There’s never a time when I don’t ask her to call me back every time she calls at the clinic.

So anyway, since I had a free time, I started watching my favorite TV sport, tennis. I was really so excited while I’m watching the game, a bit of suspense and nervous. But then my favorite tennis player, Venus Williams won the game.

I’m a huge fan of her and I always make sure to give time watching all her game even if I had my implant crown procedure with my patient. I’m so obsessed whenever she’s playing; sometimes I forget that I had my patient waiting for me. But as long as I’m able to return back to reality at the end of it, I’m happy.

Oh well, the phone is ringing. It must be Janna, again.

Three Birds in One Stone

Today, we went around the province of Laguna. We did not expect that we would be able to accomplish three very important things within the span of one day. First, we visited Laguna State Polytechnic University in Santa Cruz and spoke with the school principal. Our proposal to them was very timely because we were told that they would be holding their school's Third Anniversary Foundation Celebration on February 15 to 17. They suggested that we set up our booth during that event since all the LSPU students from four different campuses will all be gathering in just one campus--the one in Sta. Cruz. They said that for sure, we will be able to gather many sign ups, then. We thought it was a great opportunity to promote Hazzsports.

Second, while waiting for our scheduled presentation with the U.P. Los Banos Sports Committee, we decided to hold sign ups at the nearby school--Los Banos National High School. Within the span of an hour, we were able to gather more than 70 sign ups. The students were very much eager to explore the new website. There was this bandwagon thing going on among them. That's why we felt that it would be great if Hazzsports.com gets advertised through word-of-mouth among the high school students.

And third, but definitely not the least among all our accomplishments today, we were able to discuss with the U.P. Los Banos Heads our endeavor and they all expressed great interest in what we were promoting. They surmised that it would definitely be a great opportunity for the athletes in their school. They were so eager that they offered to mount Hazzsports.com tarps on the lamp posts along the school grounds and on the hottest hangout spots around campus. We were so overwhelmed with everyone's enthusiasm that at the end of this day, we went home tired but smiling.

I have become really busy these days. I miss the times that when I can't find anything to do, I try to entertain myself by doing some physical activities outside the house. I play basketball. I swim at the clubhouse pool. I run from the guardhouse all the way to our home. Now, there's no time for those things.I enjoy working, though. I love feeling the pressure when we need to meet deadlines for certain things. I love meeting people.

But then, I thought I should get active still. I want to live a fun and healthy lifestyle so maybe I'd just get my butt working out on the weekends. I so look forward to my workout sessions. I hope I could do some yoga with my friends, soon or do some healthy dishes during our cooking sessions.

Must be a lot of fun.

As a brief introduction, Hazzsports.com, a new U.S.-based social networking site, decided to partner with us, Macy's Distribution, Inc., that their website may be introduced, promoted, and marketed to the Philippines. As part of our initial marketing efforts, we decided to start roaming around and dropping off proposal letters in schools within the NCR (National Capital Region).

La Consolacion College Manila was the very first school that allowed us to hold sign ups inside their campus. It was the perfect timing to set up a sign up booth during the celebration of their College Week. "Sign up and get free pens!" was what we were shouting the whole time. Apparently, there was a fair number of receptive people. We were even able to get real and active athletes to sign up. They expressed genuine interest to the newly-introduced website and said that they would look forward to exploring it more.

Meanwhile, a number of sports fans visited our booth as well. They were excited about the news feeds feature of the website regarding their favorite sports teams and athletes. One admitted being a tennis fan. Another spoke of her interest in martial arts. It was a mix of curious people. When late afternoon came, we thought of giving out free ice cream together with the free pens, in order to drive more people to our booth and make them aware of our presence and our promotional activity. Most of the crowd were composed of college students. But some grade school kids approached us, too, and told us how much they look forward to playing the internet games on the Hazzsports website. At the end of the day, we were able to collect more than 300 sign ups.

As an after note, we would like to thank La Consolacion College's Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Bravo, for graciously accommodating us during the activity.
