Congrats Chuck on Hazzsports!! what an awesome site for athletes, coaches and sportsfans!!! President Chuck and I have been friends since way back in our freshman year at UF (although he is and always will be OLDER than me.) We had the pleasure of meeting because back then the baseball and track teams used to share a fieldhouse and I had to dodge many a fly balls that would come soaring over the baseball stadium onto the track. We were both young and had the deer in the headlights look on many of occasions that year…MY we’ve come along way.

Since earning both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Exercise Physiology at UF, I have continued to be involved in sports and athletics in many ways.

Immediately following graduate school, I moved to California to work as an Exercise Physiologist for the US Olympic Committee at the US Olympic Training Center in San Diego. Two years later I got sponsored to compete for the FILA Discovery USA team specializing in the 1500m and 5K events. I continue my professional running and triathlon career with POWERBAR Team Elite, competing in middle distance running and Ironman and Olympic triathlon events.

In 2001, I founded my company GO! Athletics. From the starting line, I had a vision of a professional company that would provide the full spectrum of performance, health, and wellness to populations everywhere. GO! Athletics specializes in Sports Performance, Nutrition, Fitness, and Corporate Wellness. GO! Athletics provides sports training, sports performance testing and consulting services to athletes, teams and universities nationwide. While the WUSA was still in existence (sorry Mitzy) I was the Head Speed, Strength, and Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia Charge Women's Professional Soccer Team. Today, I am the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia Wings Men Professional Lacrosse Team.

Also in light of Marion Jones finally admitting she was taking illegal performance enhancing substances here are a few tips if you are thinking about or are currently taking any nutritional supplements:

What To Look For When Choosing Supplements:

  • Multi-vitamins- one a day for general health, should be an adult chewable for best absorption.
  • Anti-oxidants- 1000 mg/IU per day of vitamin C, E, and A are important for protecting cells from breakdown and damage and general immune system.
  • Glutamine- 5,000 mg to support immune system, aide in post-workout recovery and over-training symptoms.
  • Essential Fatty Acids- 500- 2,000 mg per day to help with blood flow and heart health.
  • Caffeine- although caffeine can have dehydrating effects in large quantities it can also serve as a performance enhancer when used properly. If you do not normally drink large amounts of caffeine and you take about 50-75mg of caffeine before a game it can help to enhance muscle performance and energy usage.

What To Caution Against When Choosing Supplements:

  • You should caution against taking supplements from non-reputable companies. Supplements are NOT regulated by the FDA, so the contents on the label may not be exactly what are in the product. This can lead to adverse reactions and potentially fatal reactions.
  • Be cautious of the advice of the sales person at the supplement store. They only have the information that the supplement company provides them and this information most often is from a biased source or research done by the supplement company.
  • For the best information ask the advice of a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, or Physiologist they can help you distinguish between the fact or myth of the supplement claims.

Happy Training!!!
